Course Aims • To further develop understanding of autism • To increase confidence in being able to support Autistic people • To aid application of strategies and promote positive support for Autistic individuals and their carers

NQT Special Educational Needs and Disabilities & Working with ASD in the Mainstream Classroom
A full day training which will be split into two half day courses. The morning session will focus on Special Educational Needs and disabilities and the afternoon focusing on working with ASD in the Mainstream Classroom. The Special Educational Needs and Disabilities session run by Elizabeth Leyland and Aimee Deacon will allow teachers to: • have a greater understanding of a range of Special Educational Needs & Disabilities and to discuss effective strategies in the classroom • understand and plan for inclusion • develop working relationships with classroom assistants The working with ASD in the Mainstream Classroom session run by Rachel Tetchner will: • give NQTs a broad outline of what ASD is • explain how it affects children • provide ways of supporting and helping pupils with ASD them in the classroom

ELSA Training- Day 1
ELSAs are existing Teaching Assistants, Family Workers or similar posts who have been trained to take on a specific Emotional Literacy role. ELSAs have been successfully implemented in a number of areas and shown positive outcomes for children, as well as for schools more generally in reducing exclusions, raising achievement and improving staff wellbeing. The training is delivered by Educational Psychologists and will introduce participants to a range of activities and resources that can be used and opportunities to practice the skills of an ELSA.
